Are you over 18: Yes
Characters in The Box Already: N/A
Character Information
Character Name: Jack Torrance
Canon: The Shining (film)
Canon Point: Post-Movie
Is your character Dead, Undead or Alive: Dead
History: Wiki
Personality:
Jack, of course, has been proven to be a difficult person to deal with at many points in time. He is set off by even the smallest things and once his temper is unleashed, it's hard to control. While smaller acts may incite only snide remarks, he is often prone to yelling and unleashing angry outbursts on those who drive him far enough. Due to this, those who know of Jack's nature are often put on edge by his presence - using very careful word choices in order to avoid provoking the man. Even before the hotel manipulates him, it is very clearly established that his own wife seems to be very careful around him, especially when he's chipping away at his novel. Jack is primal at heart and that is something that he is not afraid to hide if he is provoked to a certain level.
Items on your character at canon point: Outside of his signature corduroy jacket and other articles of clothing, the only thing that the frozen Jack has on him at the time of his death is a sharpened fireaxe. It's still stained with the blood of Dick Hallorann, the Overlook's psychic cook.
Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:
Strengths -
Weaknesses - Mr. Torrance's first and most obvious weakness is his fondness for the bottle. In the film, despite managing to stay on the wagon for "five miserable months", he finds himself with a nice tall glass of Bourbon on the Rocks at the first opportunity he gets. A drink is a surefire way to tempt Jack, which is used against him by the hotel as a way to seduce him over to the dark side. Even before the ghastly mess at the Overlook, it is primarily his alcoholism that causes him to lose a position at a preparatory school pre-canon. Alcohol has always haunted Jack and will continue to in a way that the ghosts at the hotel could only dream of.
